Tracing the family members of the child should be initiated if the child is not accompanied by one or both of his/her parent(s) and if tracing is assessed to be in the child's best interest. In assessing if family tracing is in the best interest of the child, the child's views need to be obtained and considered, according to his/her age and maturity. The safety of the child shall be a primary consideration in assessing if family tracing procedures should be initiated.
